Know Blood Hound Dog Breed


A household looking wrinkled and long eared dog, the Blood hound dog breed is more than one thousand years old. initially breed in Belgium by the monks of St. Hubert, the monks selectively bred Bloodhounds with other hounds to great the scent ability of this breed. Blood hound dogs were brought into England and ultimately USA. Blood hounds have the strongest scenting skill of all hounds and are famous for the ability to follow scents over long distance that may be days old.

Today, Blood hounds are bred for the particular intention of tracking human being and are used to track victims of disaster or use by the police to track down suspect. Part of the Bloodhound history include individual use in the USA to track behind runaway slaves. However, Bloodhounds are not hunters. They do not like killing the prey, just capture it. They will encircle the prey and bay to let the master know its site. Male Bloodhounds will grow to between twenty five and twenty seven inches and weigh ninety to one hundred ten pounds. Female Blood hounds will average twenty three to twenty five inches in height and eighty to hundred in weight. This large breed of dog will live about ten to twelve years.

Blood hound dog have shorthaired coat that are simple to care for and can be black and tan, liver and tan and red and tawny. However, even with regular cleaning, Blood hound are sometimes described as having a muscular 'dog' stench that will not go away. Blood hound tend to slaver more than most dogs, and are also prone to howl and snore more as well. Described as kind, tolerant and demonstrative, Bloodhounds are a good family dog and do well with children. In fact, many Bloodhounds will allow children to climb all over and will not react in any way. However, exercise concern when Bloodhounds are around children. This large dog may beat over smaller children by accident.

Blood hounds need dense and steady training while they can be strong-minded. This is particularly accurate (and specially imyportant) when out with a Bloodhound, as they will take off after a scent that has caught their awareness. Bloodhounds can live in any atmosphere, provide they are exercise at least once a day. Bloodhounds can have medicinal troubles including bloat, stomach cramps, hip dysplasia and ear infections. A padded bed is suggested to avoid calluses on the joints. Some tend to get entropion, where the eyelids turn inward.
